SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

ANACAPA ISLAND SERIES 2024

1. Rules

This race will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing.  Any changes to the rules allowed by rule 86 will be stated in the Sailing Instructions with the rule number and specific change. The Notice of Race can be found at AnacapaYachtClub.org/race or click HERE

In light of the current pandemic surge, racers are expected to follow state and local guidelines in effect at the time of the race to prevent its spread. Any failure to comply will not be grounds for either protest or redress. Keep clear of and yield to ship traffic at Hueneme Harbor buoy.

2. Entries

Competitors may enter by delivering a completed entry form and paying the $40 per race or $100 for the series per boat or competitor at the AYC club house. Members in good standing do not pay entry fees. You Can NO SKIPPERS' MEETING. PAY FOR ENTRY HERE

3. Notices to Competitors

Notices to competitors will be posted to anacapayachtclub.org website located in the racing page. Time limit for notices must be posted by 0900 day of the race.

5. Racing Area

The racing area will be in the immediate vicinity of Channel Island Harbor, encompassing local established marks and Anacapa Island.

6. Courses and Marks

All starts are at the Mandalay Buoy.

a. Anacapa Anyway April 13, 2024

Start at Mandalay Buoy, take Anacapa Island either direction, returning from the island and finish at Mandalay Spar per 9e

(see “Finish 9e” below). Course length is 32.0 nm.

b.  Anacapa To Port - May 04, 2024

Start at Mandalay Buoy, take Anacapa Island to port, finish at Mandalay Spar per 9e

(see “Finish 9e” below). Course length is 32.0 nm.

cWes Golemon Memorial - Anacapa to Starboard August 24, 2024

Start at Mandalay Buoy, take Anacapa to Starboard, take Wes mark to Starboard, finish at Mandalay Spar per 9e .

(see “Finish 9e” below). Course length is 35 nm.

d. Alternatice Courses due to wind are as follows:

Alternative Course 1:

Platform Gilda to port, finish. Course length is 17.0 nm.

Alternative Course 2:

Platform Gina to port, Wes mark to starboard, finish. Course length is 9.0 nm

Alternative Course 3:

Platform Gina to port, finish. Course length is 7.5 nm.

Alternative Course 4.

Platform Gina to Port, Wes Mark to Starboard, Finish. Course length 10.2 nm.

Alternate Course 5.

Ventura Bell Buoy to Port, Wes Mark to Port, Hueneme Buoy to Port, Finish. Course length 11.9 nm.

7. FLEETS

8. STARTING SEQUENCE The warning signal for the first race will be [at {1055}] Subsequent class starts shall be rolling, i.e., the warning signal for each succeeding class shall be the starting signal of the immediately preceding class.

9. Starting and Finishing Lines

a. All boats are to check in on channel 68 prior to the race sequence start.

The Sound Signal Starting System in Rule 26 of the racing rules will be used.

b. Class flags will be solid color as described below:

i. A Fleet – RED

  ii. B Fleet – GREEN

  iii. C Fleet – YELLOW

  iv. D Fleet – White

c. The starting line will be established by the race committee boat and Mandalay Mark Buoy (Pin).

d. The start line will be 90 degrees or as close as possible to the wind.

e. The finish shall be on a line between a permanent mark offshore from the Mandalay Power Plant (Mandalay Spar) and the stack of the power plant. The stack bears 57 degrees Magnetic from the Mandalay Spar. All racers shall record the time that their bow crosses this line. All boats shall finish within 3 boatlengths of the mark. The finish time shall be reported to the RC.

As a courtesy to the race committee, first boats approach the FINISH and when it is dark, please announce on channel 68 to the race committee AND call / TEXT Race Officer ON DUTY

to REPORT YOUR FINISH TIME. Make sure your get a text confirmation.

Ventura harbor boats may proceed back to their home port from this location.  In the absence of a Race Committee, or radio instruction, take and record your own time.

10. Protests

Protests shall be announced on Channel 68 and acknowledged by the race committee and delivered to AYC Rear Commodore or designee. Protests shall be written on forms available at AYC and shall be filed with the Race Committee within 60 minutes (180 minutes for boats that return to Ventura Harbor) of the finish of the protesting boat.

11. Scoring

PHRF Low Scoring will be used. Results will be posted on the AYC website within 90 minutes of the last boat finishing unless a protest is filed.
